We've got big things this month at Second Saturday Swing! The beginner lesson at 7:30 will be taught by the dynamic duo of Shannon and Forrest Ernst while the intermediate lesson (also at 7:30) will be taught by contagiously enthusiastic John Ennis. Tunes for your dancing pleasure will be provided by John and a long-time friend making her return after a 1-year sojourn to Costa Rica, the lovely Audrey Anderson! Dancing goes until 11, 11:30, midnight...as long as the vibe is working. Don't miss out on the fun!

This Saturday promises to be a firecracker of an event. First off I want to encourage anyone who can to go up to Glen Echo this weekend for the Big, Big Benefit for Laurie Glikenson. Laurie is a huge Lindy community friend and mother of dancer/teacher Nina Gilkenson. She's had some serious medical issues recently and needs our help. Details for the event can be found at http://www.bigbigbenefit.com/.
However, if you can't go, you can still help by coming to Second Saturday Swing this week as we will be donating all proceeds to Laurie's cause. And if you feel like kicking in a little extra, well we won't mind.
John Ennis and TBA will be teaching the intermediate Lindy/swing lesson while Forrest and Shannon will be taking care of the beginners. Both lessons start at 7:30 and are included in the admission to the dance. Our special guest DJs this month are the aforementioned John (be sure to wish him "Veilige reis!" on his trip to the Netherlands), the czarina of Swing Cville, Meghan Hunter, and swing/blues DJ extraordinaire, Bill Speidel. They'll be playing the tunes that will keep you on the floor all night. And hey, we may even have the return of Iron DJ this month so come check it out!

Thanks to everyone who came to Second Saturday Swing this past weekend. With your help we were able to raise $265 for the Laurie Glikenson Relief Fund! Thanks for coming out and supporting our benefit for Laurie.
Bill Speidel and Meghan Hunter had a spirited battle in our Iron DJ competition. The secret theme was "She Works Hard for the Money" and the DJs really delivered with the following sets:
Meghan:
Strip Polka, Kay Kyser and his Orchestra
Minnie the Moocher, Cab Calloway
Hard Working Woman, Carey Bell
Bill:
Shake Your Money Maker, Elmore James
Got My Mojo Working, Asylum Street Spankers
Nice Work If You Can Get It, Benny Goodman Quartet
And the winner was....Bill!
Thanks again for coming out and don't remember that we also have swing dances on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month.

Another month and another Second Saturday Swing! We're back with lessons, tunes, and great swing dancing for your summer enjoyment. You choose between a beginner or an intermediate Lindy Hop lesson. The beginners will be taught by Andy & Rita while the intermediate lesson will be covered by world-traveler John Ennis. Be there at 7:30 so you don't miss anything! Then we have a variety of music for your swing dancing pleasure provided by our corps of DJs: Victor Celania, John Ennis, and me, Andy Nishida. Birthday jam? Iron DJ? You'll have to show up to find out! At a minimum it will be a fun-filled time. Be there!

Second Saturday Swing for September starts with two lessons at 7:30. Choose from a beginner or an intermediate Lindy Hop class. Andy & Rita will be teaching the beginner lesson while John and FDI* will handle the intermediate lesson. No partner necessary and included with your paid admission to the dance! Then at 8:30 dance to the DJ'd sounds of our guest DJs: Valerie Harigs (Leesburg), Victor Celania (Virginia Beach) and Mike Herring (Charlottesville). There may be an Iron DJ and perhaps we'll have a birthday jam as well. At the very least we'll have free refreshments and a grand ol' time so come on out!

Also be sure to also check out the details for our big workshop weekend coming up in October, Jammin' on the James (www.jamminonthejames.com). You don't want to miss it!
