Message: I thought you'd said our host was amazingly 'gorgeous' and I was about to agree that dress on Saturday night was stunning. When you factor in that she wasn't just our host but was also running the whole weekend, I think Joy was wonder woman. Roland Barber was crazy awesome with Gordon on Friday and I'd like to personally thank Jenny for keeping Devona, Steven Watkins and I with fine single malt Irish whiskey during the Saturday afternoon terrace dance. What a venue!Heck, it was like somebody scooped up Swing Out New Hampshire and dropped it in the middle of Manhattan! It was great to see little old Hampton Roads so well represented. I also think we'd win any competition for most diverse collection of air mattresses with the floral/paisley pool float, the super-sized Chuckie Cheese play floor, the champagne deluxe model with color coordinated sheets and basic survivalist brown. We've got a good cadre of lindy hopping road trippers! Now we all just need to bring an extra guest back with us for the Blues Collective in July!

Topic: Buenos Aires Blues: Knoxville, TN: June 6-8

Message: First off, I want to thank everyone for their support of the oxford comma. I was very pleasantly surprised how many messages I got. : )On to business...How to save money when going to BAB:Remember, the current price of $80 ($75 for students) only extends until May 23rd. Don't wait until prices go up! Also, if you need a lower admission price, we still have volunteer spots open. Another way to save money: carpool! If you know you're going, or are thinking of going, post on the forum and make plans with others from your scene. Everyone likes saving on gas (not to mention the good environmental karma!).If money is more of an issue than time, consider flying into Nashville or Atlanta for lower fares, then carpooling to Ktown. How to save money before/after BAB:Coast down hills. When approaching a redlight, slow waaaay down, to 10-20mph. Chances are good that the light will turn green before you get there, saving you wasted gas on re-accelerating from a dead stop.Ramen. Who knew that noodles-and-brine could come in so many flavors?Work by candlelight, and get up at dawn. Lightbulbs, and the electricity to run them, are expensive!Rather than waste money on AC, just walk around naked. Opening windows will help with circulation. Opening doors while naked is not recommended.Save on water bills by using your neighbor's hose to water your lawn when they leave town. When collecting their mail, take all the good coupons, too.Save on water and laundry detergent by taking showers in your clothes. Now you and your clothes are squeaky clean! These helpful tips were brought to you by Buenos Aires Blues. But seriously- go register. It's cheaper, and you don't have to worry about us selling out again.Cheers,-Mike

Topic: Swing Week At Augusta Launches Dance Website!

Message: SWING WEEK INSTRUCTORS: SPOTLIGHT ON JAYA DORF & MICHAEL GAMBLEMichael & Jaya (Asheville, NC www.michaelandjaya.com ) have played a nurturing role in the Southeast for the last six years, prolifically teaching, organizing, and devoting themselves to the growth of the Lindy Hop community. In addition to organizing Lindy Focus, Sugar Foot Stomp, and Southern Belle Swing Bash), they have taught workshops throughout the region including Orlando, Atlanta, Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Charleston, Greenville, Asheville, Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, Blacksburg, Pittsburgh, and most recently San Francisco and Sacramento. They have attended and led multiple regional teacher training seminars, and have sought relentlessly to spread awareness of Lindy Hop and to cultivate its tradition and technique. Together and separately they have helped to facilitate and judge a variety of contests of every style associated with the Lindy Hop world.MICHAEL & JAYA attended Swing Week for the first time last year: Jaya as a dance instructor (assisting Bill Borgida) and Michael as piano accompanist for the vocals class. When these two got out on the dance floor, they brought the house down! Their energy and vitality will be a wonderful addition to everyone’s experience at Augusta! For more information about the dance program at swing week, go to www.augustaheritage.com/lindyhop and www.augustaheritage.com/swing.html .
